Study of spatial variability of runoff and soil loss characteristics and perception of their distribution is useful for water and soil conservation strategies. In this study spatial variability of runoff and soil loss were investigated in summer rangeland of Nesho in Mazandaran province. For this research, 110 runoff and sediment yield samples were collected by a systematic sampling strategy on a regular grid spacing of 30×30 m using simulated rainfall with 2 mm/min intensity and 11 minutes duration on 0.09 m2 plots. All the samples were transported to laboratory and characteristics including sediment yield and sediment concentration were analyzed. After data normalization, classical statistical analysis was used to describe runoff and soil loss properties and geo-statistical analysis were used to illustrate spatial correlation of runoff and soil loss and spatial distribution was mapped using kriging techniques. The highest and lowest Coefficient of Variation was related to sediment yield and time to runoff generation with 93.75 and 28.43 percent, respectively. fitted models for runoff and sediment characteristics are spherical and exponential models which are with sill and exhibits existence of spatial structure and spatial dependence of variables. Based on results of variography, we observed runoff volume and sediment concentration had highest and lowest effective ranges respectively with 1010.90 and 831 meter. According to existence of strong spatial structure between data, it can be stated that kriging method has high ability to estimate mentioned variables at unsampled points and mapping. |
