An inoviative approach for comparing the trend of potential evapotranspiration changes between dry and wet periods in Isfahan Province

Abstract:   (123 Views)
Due to its geographical location and specific climatic conditions, the Isfahan region has always faced the challenges of water shortage and drought, and a precise understanding of the dynamics of evapotranspiration is of great importance. The purpose of this study is to compare ETp (two methods of Thornthwaite and Hargreaves) between dry and wet periods using a moving average of precipitation of three, five, seven and nine years for 15 stations studied in Isfahan, and also to compare rainfall between hyperevaporation and hypoevaporation periods using a moving average based on ETp (two methods of Thornthwaite and Hargreaves) of three, five, seven and nine years in 15 stations studied in Isfahan province. The innovation of the research is to create and compare regressions between the average annual ETp of the wet period and the dry period between the 15 stations studied in periods of three, five, seven and nine years and also in two potential evapotranspiration methods of Thornthwaite and Hargreaves, and to select the most appropriate period and the most appropriate ETp method (Thornthwaite and Hargreaves) for Isfahan province. This study compares the performance of two linear regression models, including the Thornthwaite potential evapotranspiration method and the Hargreaves potential evapotranspiration method, and also using four periods of three, five, seven and nine years. The data used for this analysis are derived from 15 synoptic meteorological stations located in Isfahan province and the 21-year statistical period from 2003 to 2023. The moving average of precipitation for each station and for periods of 3, 5, 7 and 9 years was plotted and the dry and wet periods of each station were determined. The results of the regression between the average potential evapotranspiration of the wet and dry periods of the studied stations were performed, which indicated the superiority of the Thornthwaite ETp method over the Hargreaves one and also the better results of the short-term periods.
