Many factors contribute to gully occurrence and growth, so having proper knowledge about these factors

and their effects led to prosperous application of expensive measures of gully erosion control. Large

area of the Sorkh-abad watershed in the Savadkooh district dissected by gullies and this problem is restricted

economical and social status of the region. In this study some factors such as lithology, slope, aspect,

elevation above sea level, plant cover percentage, land use, soil depth, soil hydrologic groups and distance

to roads have been selected to analyze the effect of environmental factors on gully occurrence and expansion

using RS and GIS techniques. The information layers of these factors in 5 gully erosion regions investigated

and analyzed and weight indices of factors calculated. Results showed that 48% of the study area

is located in high class of gully erosion susceptibility map.
